Recently I visited one of the power companies presentation about their need to run the power lines up by the Causewaymire adjacent to the A9 in Caithness. Great play was made about the company avoiding the Flow Country (often described as the largest carbon sink in Europe) When I challenged the company rep about the fact that they had simply moved the demarcation line to present their pylon line as now running alongside the Flow Country! What was the Flow Country yesterday is now outside the Flow Country! Hence my heading Jiggery-Pokery.
The company rep did have the decency to smile and quietly accept the point. All these cables can either be run under ground or out under the sea but this will cost more hence the monstrous behemoths straddling across the country. The trouble is our SNP Government in Edinburgh and the Labour Government in London are hell bent on this carbon neutral mirage irrespective of the chaos and destruction it causes.
