I've been visiting Loch Brora to recharge my spirits all my life.
The view to Carrol Rock is as beautiful as anything in the UK and it is surrounded by historical sites such as a broch and a crannog. Visitors to East Sutherland come from near and far and would be astonished at the idea of running pylons through it. Would permission be granted to run power lines over Windermere or Arthur's Seat? Just because Sutherland is far from centres of power it is no less deserving of protection than other more famous places in Scotland and beyond. In Japan recently an over-tall office block that had just been built was ordered to be demolished by the council as it obstructed a view of Mount Fuji for local residents.
This is the attitude we as a society should have to our most sacred natural sites such as Carrol rock. It is our Mount Fuji, our Yosemite, our Grand Canyon.
